IP Hoot and Holler Solutions .

Internet Protocol (IP) or Voice over IP (VoIP) Hoot and Holler solutions have now progressed in reliability and robustness to make them a viable and cost effective solution within the Broker /Dealing room environment. The benefits they deliver depend upon how they are deployed however typically they are quicker to deploy, cheaper than a bespoke hardware based solution and have a better disposition for applying business rules to the solution.

IP Hoot solutions also have a number of disadvantages over discreet systems however these can be minimised by careful implementation of any system chosen.

IP Hoot n Holler systems typically come in 2 different solutions the first uses H323 protocol and other uses SIP protocol. Again the choice is dependant upon you existing infrastructure and how you plan to deploy the solution.

Hoot 'n' Holler Overview

Hoot 'n' holler networks have been around for more than half a century and were originally adopted within the financial markets by organisations that recognised the benefits of real time information being broadcast to multiple traders simultaneously often by the analyst. This type of network seems to have developed from Junkyard operators in America who would use this type of open broadcast system to ask other junkyards if they had spares for a client’s vehicle, if more than one junkyard had the required part then live bidding would take place until the successful supplier was chosen.

Nowadays they are used where time critical information needs to be distributed to a large or diverse number of recipients very quickly, typically this will normally be financially or safety orientated and hence the Financial Markets or Command and Control organisations are the most common users. Uses for the networks vary and we have assisted in various implementations from in-house systems to global systems including dial-in options and dial on demand services.
